God asks people to put him first, and give our whole selves to him. This is worship - the more of ourselves we give, the more we show what God is worth to us. This is why worship at Pip n Jay takes many forms.

More about worship: speakers, leaders and survey results |
|
Rob Hook writes:
Speak up!
We are looking for people who can be heard. A service is improved if there are more than one or two people at the front. We are looking to create a list of names of people who can speak well into a microphone to do readings, prayers, notices and intercessions. If that is you, please make yourself known to either Rob Hook or Sheila McKay. We would love to hear from you.
The Pip n Jay church survey – the results
Last year we undertook a survey of the church membership to ascertain their views of a variety of aspects of our church life. Thank you for your time in filling them out. We have gone through the results and have identified a number of issues that are being addressed. We are looking at all-age services to see how we can build on the excellent legacy. We are looking at the evening services to make them more relevant to the entire congregation rather than a small minority. We are considering ways to enhance the music and the choice of songs. Finally we are looking at developing a teaching plan that will build up the fellowship to achieve our mission of growing up and growing out together. We know that we have a long way to go.
Are you a leader?
We are all getting older. OK some have stood the test of time better than others but nevertheless we are advancing slowly through the years. This means that at some state we will need to be replaced. That in turn means that we need to have replacements ready to step in. If you feel that your ministry or talent lies in some form of leadership role we would love to hear from you. All we ask is a bit of humility, a dash of common sense and oodles of passion to see Pip n Jay deliver for God. Interested? Then see Rob Hook or the Wardens and they will pass on the message. |

More about our Sunday Worship |
|
Rob Hook writes:
Evening services – O come all ye faithful!
Pip n Jay, like most churches, runs two services every Sunday, morning and evening. Typically people choose to come to one or the other but rarely both. That is a shame as it creates a two “family” congregation. We can see from the morning services that it is for the family whereas in the evening it has a greater proportion of young adults.
Imagine what it would be like if everyone came to both services. The families would meet the young adults and vice versa. We would extend the bonds of friendship beyond our usual circle of influence and trust. We would each learn more about the pressures faced by the other, which would expand our knowledge and offer new opportunities for friendship.
In a busy world where time is of the essence it might not be possible to attend both but, with the right commitment and planning, it might be possible to come to one or two a month.
Children in services
If our mission to grow up and grow out together is to be achieved we must look at making our congregation inclusive, friendly, tolerant and welcoming. That specifically includes children of any age! We have been working hard to make the time when the children are in the main service as child-friendly as possible.
We have looked at getting the right songs so that they can come to the front and bounce around. We have flags that they can wave as an act or worship. We are asking service leaders to ensure that any presentations made during this time are child-friendly in terms of maximising their use of their senses rather than just the spoken word.
We are not where we want to be and are working hard to make them as good as we can. We welcome your suggestions. Please speak either to Rob Hook or Judy Joinson about any ideas that you might have. |

Moving forward in worship |
|
Rob Hook writes:
As most of you already know the acts of corporate worship at Pip n Jay do not just appear each Sunday out of thin air but come about through a great deal of hard work and teamwork. The team comprises the service leader, the musician’s leader and a preacher. Others are drafted in to add variety and additional information as and when needed. Together they collaborate to make the service accessible to all, godly, challenging and where possible, fun.
The Book of Common Worship which is the Anglican reference work on running acts of worship contains this sentiment: ‘The primary object of the service is to enable the whole congregation to come into the presence of God to give Him glory.’ The service leaders are looking to make that sentence come alive at times where we get together to worship. There are two key people to be aware of as follows:
Rob Hook – overseer of worship
Steve Cole – overseer of the musicians
If you would like to comment on the services please talk or write to them. They are open and ready to hear from you to improve the services. |

Freedom is a time of worship, every two weeks on a Saturday night at Pip n Jay. In this time, we try to learn different ways of expressing our worship, to stretch our vocabulary and to put into practice some of the things that might currently be only theoretical.

The Bible says that if you give, God will so give to you that you will be able to give even more. Your giving capacity is intended to grow. To those outside the Church God’s economy seems stupid. God is saying the way to prosper is to give your money away. Giving is very good for you. Here we present a special set of teachings which Malcolm Widdecombe is giving at a worldwide conference of Anglican clergy, for you to download and enjoy. |
