alpha manIf you have ever asked questions like "Is there more to life than this?; "What am I doing here?"; "Who cares?"; or "What's it all about?", then the alpha course could be just what you need. Alpha is a 10 week course that is held in a relaxed, friendly environment, giving you an opportunity to learn more about faith and Christianity, and to discuss some of the burning questions that you may have about God and the meaning of life.

Alpha has now become a global introduction to the Christian faith, and there are now over 35,000 courses registered and running around the world. In 2007 alone 1.5 million people completed an alpha course, and nearly 200,000 of these were in the UK.

Pip n Jay have been running the Alpha course for more than 10 years, and our most recent course ran between January and March this year. We will soon be publishing some stories on this website of people who attended that course, and found that their lives were transformed through the process (watch this space!).

The most recent Alpha course at Pip n Jay ran from October to Decenber 2008. You may have seen some of the national advertising for the course on the side of buses and on billboards. The key question being asked in the advertising is "If God did exist what would you ask him?"

A typical alpha evening starts with food; followed by a brief presentation looking at different topics each week, such as "Who is Jesus" and "Why do I pray?" etc... After each talk there is a time of discussion in small groups. Alpha is aimed at those who are wanting to investigate Christianity, new Christians, and newcomers to the church.

There is no charge for the Alpha course, although you may wish to make a contribution towards the food.

The next alpha initiative being run at Pip'n'Jay will be a student-focussed alpha course, being run in several small groups during February and March 2009. We will be making plans for the next mainstream alpha course later in the year.
