Diary of a local missionary - week 1 |
|
Greg Sharples writes: It's been a great day to start! Sunshine in the dings has made for good spirits all round. Got to know a whole bunch of people.
Sophie and I have always had heart for our neighbourhood and it felt good to be taking an intentional step to reach it. I was feeling a little nervous as I had a sense of this being a significant time, mainly because I've been involved in relatively radical mission stuff before but never on my own doorstep, where you know there will be very real consequences for you & your family. Not necessarily positive or negative but consequences all the same! But hey isn't that the point? Soph and I will be more engaged than we've ever been with our community! Our lives will hopefully be shaped by our mission!
I felt very blessed to have Joe Bean join me & we went door knocking using the opening line of "Hi, I'm Greg & this is Joe. I work for the local church Pip n Jay, do you know it? Anyway I live in the area and we're trying to get to know the neighbours........" etc We connected with some great people and we're surprised how responsive people were and look forward to hooking up with them again! It's amazing how much fear I had towards doing a new thing which was in fact completely unwarranted! It was a good time and we felt blessed to be doing it! more reports will follow - you can contact Greg here. |
