Greg Sharples writes: In a step of faith to bring in summer I slung on my flip flops ready to go door knocking. It looked bright enough but, man, April can be deceptive, temperature wise, and my toes soon felt a little chilly! There seemed to be a much higher percentage of absentees this week, but as it was the school holidays there was plenty of the youth around for a chin wag!
It feels a bit like I'm building a back catalogue of relationships that are being filed away with only a small likelihood of potential follow up. That said, I did have a good chat to a lad I'd met last week. I was explaining to him that Jesus came to give life to the full, he appeared dubious and, when I asked, he thought motorbikes and girls were a better bet! He's a great lad and I'm looking forward to getting to know him and some of his mates better. He's looking for a job and seemed interested when I offered my job searching abilities!
I realise I've really no idea how to show myself to be a "trustworthy" person to the people I meet! Little and often is starting to look better than big chunks of time in one go! It is interesting though, because you want people to know you are for them, but I also go with an agenda, and what they think love is may be different from what I am communicating! Man, we need Jesus! I went on and had some long conversations about all manner of things, it's been encouraging! There is a sense that people are looking for something and I was able to prophecy over one lady, very simply that God wanted her to know she's loved and that he's her heavenly father, and she seemed really touched. Please pray for wisdom as we look to follow some people up and that God would continue to prepare the way! I feel really blessed to be building on great work done by the church already in the Dings! To the extent that even the atheist lady i met was encouraging! It was cold but fun! Fortunately I'm never more than 10 minutes from home........so i can always slip home for a cuppa soup and shoes and socks! Bless you Greg xx more reports will follow - you can contact Greg here. |
